Lead Underground Works Engineer – Tajikistan – 12 Months
Description :
As part of a major international hydropower development project, we are seeking a highly experienced Lead Underground Works Engineer to join the site supervision team in Tajikistan. The position is critical to ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of all underground works, including tunnels, galleries and related hydraulic structures.

Collaborate closely with the Project Manager, Chief Resident Engineer (CRE) and the wider engineering team (headquarters and site) on all technical matters related to underground works.

Provide direct support to the CRE, working under their authority to ensure alignment with design, specifications and contractual obligations.

Lead the review of drawings, procedures, ITPs, and method statements submitted by contractors, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and good engineering practices.

Supervise and train a small team of local staff assigned to underground works inspections.

Verify compliance between designs and on-site implementation.

Monitor quality and compliance of materials and equipment used in the works.

Conduct site inspections, report discrepancies and support resolution of unexpected technical issues.

Follow progress and quantities, flag delays or deviations likely to lead to claims.

Ensure proper handover of underground works at project milestones.

Contribute to monthly reports and ensure adherence to site Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) procedures and codes.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of modern construction methods relevant to large-scale underground works.
Profile :
Education: Master's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Experience:

Minimum 20 years of total experience in civil engineering.

At least 10 years on large hydropower projects.

At least 10 years in supervision or execution of underground works.

Minimum 5 years in hydraulic tunnel construction or supervision.
Technical Skills:

Strong knowledge of international design and construction standards for tunnels and underground structures.

Ability to analyse and validate technical documentation.

Proven site supervision experience, including dealing with contractors, suppliers, and cross-disciplinary coordination.

Familiarity with construction monitoring tools and quality assurance procedures.
Languages: Excellent command of English (spoken and written), Russian is a plus.
