ASU Start-up Expert – South Africa – 1 Month

Description :
We are seeking an ASU Start-up Expert to support the commissioning and start-up phase of an Air Separation Unit (ASU) revamp project in Secunda, South Africa. The new DCS system has been installed, loop and logic checks are completed, and the site will soon enter the start-up phase.

The expert will temporarily replace the current specialist and ensure a smooth start-up, provide technical support on DCS, logic, process, and field instrumentation, and carry out plant tuning during this critical phase.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide on-site technical support for ASU start-up and commissioning activities.
  • Execute plant tuning and ensure operational stability of the new DCS system.
  • Support process control, logic checks, and integration with field instrumentation.
  • Report daily to the local and Charenton project managers.
  • Ensure knowledge transfer to the local team for continuity.
Profile :
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the start-up of cryogenic Air Separation Units.
  • Strong knowledge of DCS systems, process control, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to read E&I documents (logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams) and piping documents (P&ID, isometrics).
  • Experience in precommissioning activities (P&ID checks, flushing, inerting…).
  • Strong teamwork, reporting, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide clear technical guidance.
  • Fluent English required.
