GAS – HEAD OF PROCESS DEPARTMENT – BELGIUM (13 Months)

Description :
We are looking for a Head of Process Department for a minimum of 13 months in Belgium (41).

The Process Department Manager is responsible for managing a team of +/- 10 professionals located in Belgium and India. The Process Department is part of the wider engineering department and works with various disciplinary teams. The main objective of the Process team is to develop and optimise the process control and safety of the electrolysis system. It works closely with other disciplines and project teams to ensure the success of this complex engineering project.

As Head of Process, your main duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Leadership and team management:
  • Manage and lead the process teams in Belgium (reporting line) and India (functional link with the Head of Process),
  • Foster a collaborative and productive working environment to ensure high performance across both teams.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaboration protocols and effective interfaces with other disciplines and project teams,
  • Build and manage a network of engineering subcontractors to support the capacity and expertise of the teams,
  • Encourage the adoption of a continuous improvement system, promoting quality, efficiency and productivity in line with the company's objectives.
  • Process design and safety:
  • Ensuring reliable process design in line with international standards and industry best practice,
  • Maintain process safety across all electrolysis systems, prioritising safety in all aspects of design and operation,
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve internal design practices, standards, models and process philosophies.
  • Ensure that thorough technical risk assessments are conducted and mitigated as part of the process design lifecycle,
  • Oversee the application of internal standards, ensuring compliance with international codes, industry standards and contractual requirements.
Profile :
  • Master's degree in engineering (civil or industrial),
  • At least 10 years' experience in the field of process control and safety, with experience in team management. Hazardous area experience is mandatory and experience in the hydrogen sector is considered an asset. Field experience is an asset.
  • Solid skills in process control and safety for complex industrial systems,
  • Knowledge of international standards and codes (mainly EN, ISO and ASME),
  • Experience of simulation software (Symmetry, ASPEN, etc.)
  • Ability to develop and implement internal standards and process design documentation including:
  • Process design basis, process flow diagram (PFD), utility flow diagram (UFD) and process and instrumentation diagram (P&ID)
  • Description of interlocks, cause and effect diagrams
  • Operating instructions and functional analysis
  • Mass and heat balance
  • Material selection diagram (MSD)
  • Assist and prepare HAZOP
  • Writing specifications for safety requirements Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • ATEX zoning calculations
  • Hydraulic calculations and reports
  • Flare load summary, flare manifold and network sizing calculations
  • Process data sheets for equipment/packages
  • Process data sheets for instruments (IPDS)
  • Expertise in interfaces between products and organisations and an understanding of how process engineering integrates with other project functions,
  • Fluency in English (reading, speaking, listening),
  • You will be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-growing environment with international exposure.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with an emphasis on promoting team spirit and achieving project objectives.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Assertive, results-oriented and able to solve engineering problems,
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks to tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in an international environment, managing cross-cultural relationships and interactions,
  • Willingness to travel abroad on short-term assignments as required,
